The VIBC was founded by Kelton Doraty and Rob Byron in 2022 as a grassroots, inclusive cycling organization.

Drawing inspiration from events like the annual Swift Campout and Coffee Outside, Rob and Kelton  believed adventure changes the way people view the world and that self-propelled travel to new places with new people creates unforgettable experiences.

The first VIBC event was in April 2022 on Salt Spring Island and focused on those who were wanting to embark on their first bikepacking trip. Over its first three years, the VIBC has hosted 20 events with over 600 different individuals in attendance and drawing folks from all across the island, the mainland, Washington State and other parts of the world.

In 2024 the VIBC officially incorporated as a Society with a Board of Directors to ensure longevity, establish a robust governance structure, and enable membership to have more say in the future of the organization.
